My very short trip to Batam, Indonesia

The resort where I stayed in for 2 days.

Their facilities the swimming pool and some person officiating the water polo match between middle-aged uncles and aunties from Korea.

The sea view we had from outside the resort

the place where we had dinner at

Me trying to act cute for you

The trip to BAtam was free. I won it in a lucky draw.
I havent been to BAtam before and it was an eye opening experience.

the state of poverty in that part of indonesia was beyond my expectation, especially since it has been a tourist spot for some time now. I did not realised, that somewhere so near to us, only 45 minutes away from a ferry ride at the Harbourfront, was in such bad state!

the resort was the only place in the entire island that looks inhabitable to me!

It just made me feel that we are having it all too good in Singapore, we have come to take things for granted. For one, I am glad that although some parts of Singapore were affected by the recent quake in Indonesia, we werent the recipent of the wrath of the land gods.

We are lucky and today i read about the article about how help from singapore are often mis-given, to those who do not need it, to those who are not in dire need of such help, it just made me wonder why am I so lucky to be borned and bred in Singapore.

Where corruption has been nipped in the butt, where we have an efficient police force, where we can walk the streets without fearing there would be criminals hiding in some corner trying to rob me.

I surely must thank my lucky stars and I think you must do the same too.
